Research Synthesis
I am interested in understanding the constraints to production faced by small-holder farmers in Sub-Saharan Africa and how these stand to play out in the light of global environmental challenges. This is by assessing the extent to which the exposure of small-holder producers to physical and agronomic constraints may explain the gap between theoretical (modeled), experimental and actual yields of major food crops in this region of the world. My focus is therefore on three main issues: the role of climate variability in small-holder food production; environmental resources as constraints and/or opportunities for food production; and the role of agronomy (agricultural management and policies) in food crop production. Changes over time and spatial variability are important components in the study.
Teaching Responsibilities
